August 15th (Sat) 夜の気配さえ熱を帯び、風のない闇が肌にまとわりつく—そんな真夏の盛りに、ひととき現世を離れる怪異の舞台をご用意いたしました。

In the height of midsummer, SUIGIAN invites you to step beyond the ordinary and into a world of haunting beauty. As a respite from Japan’s intense summer heat, we are pleased to present our special Summer Ghost Noh performance during the Obon season. 今回の演目は、能「鉄輪 (かなわ)」。
夫への深い恨みと嫉妬から、人間でありながら鬼へと変貌していく女の姿、そして鬼女と陰陽師・安倍晴明との祈祷による壮絶な対決を描く、能屈指の名作です。 This year’s featured work is “Kanawa (Iron Trivet),” one of the most powerful masterpieces of the Noh repertoire.
The play tells the story of a woman consumed by jealousy and resentment after being abandoned by her husband. Her overwhelming emotions gradually transform her from a human into a fearsome demon, culminating in a dramatic confrontation with the great onmyōji (master of yin-yang divination), Abe no Seimei, whose prayers seek to subdue her vengeful spirit. 鬼女の恐ろしくも迫力に満ちた姿を舞うのは、シテ方宝生流能楽師・重要無形文化財総合指定保持者の辰巳満次郎。 The role of the demon woman will be performed by Manjiro Tatsumi, a distinguished Hosho school Noh actor and holder of Japan’s designation as an Important Intangible Cultural Property. さらに、解説を「鉄輪」の世界を古典怪談を専門とする人気怪談師・満茶乃 (まさの) が怪談語りで恐ろしくいたします。 The performance will be accompanied by an illuminating commentary from Masano, a renowned storyteller specializing in classical Japanese ghost tales, who will guide audiences through the world of Kanawa with captivating narratives. 能と怪談、それぞれの表現が響き合う、当店ならではの大変贅沢なプログラムです。 この貴重な真夏の一夜を、どうぞお見逃しなきよう、ご来場を心よりお待ち申し上げております。 Blending the timeless artistry of Noh with the rich tradition of Japanese ghost storytelling, this is an exceptional program that could only be experienced at Suigian.
