Against a classical and authentic background of old pine trees
said to be painted by an artist belonging to the Kano School in the Edo Period,
watch stage performances of traditional performing arts
such as Noh, Kyogen, Japanese dance, Kagura,
and ancient Japanese court music that transcend traditional schools.
Enjoy a "feast" of these Japanese traditional performing arts up close,

Momokawa Geinagon

Geinagon

During dinner and bar time, excluding Special Performance dates, guests can enjoy an on-stage performance by "Momokawa Geinagon" while dining.
The performance consists of several digest versions of dances, approximately 7-8 minutes in length, providing our guests with the finest of entertainment experiences, and great topics for conversation while dining.

"Geinagon" is a group composed of female Nihon-buyou, Nagauta, Koto song, Shakuhachi performers who teach their art at the highest level.

Multiple performances

Nihon-buyou: Japanese traditional performing art, which is to dance to the Japanese classical music.

Nagauta: Classical Japanese song accompanied by shamisen.

Koto song: The "Koto," also known as "Japanese harp," is a traditional Japanese stringed instrument similar to a zither.

Shakuhachi: A vertical bamboo flute (with four holes in front and one in back).

Kagura Kengyokunochikai

A performing arts that offers up a prayer for long life, abundant harvest of crops, and cleansing of misfortune; additionally, many performance programs feature Noh plays and the myths of Chronicles of Japan, etc. as a theme. It is a traditional art greatly loved over the ages by the masses, and even now is indispensable to shrine festivals.

"Kengyoku no chikai (Swords and Jewels Pledge)"
Amaterasu Omikami, who rules over Takamagahara, makes an offering of heirloom jewels and prays day and night for the peace of the peoples of all lands.
Her younger brother Susanoo no Mikoto, disowned after incurring the anger of Amaterasu Omikami, makes the decision to ascend to Takamagahara.
Amaterasu Omikami displays anger and sets upon Susanoo no Mikoto, who apologizes for his past foul deeds, defeats a monstrous serpent of the underworld, and explains that he has come to offer up a treasured sword.
Amaterasu Omikami forgives Susanoo no Mikoto his sins, and offers the family heirloom treasures as a sign of reconciliation.
The two great figures perform a "Treasured sword dance" that makes a vow of eternal peace, and pray for the prosperity of each other's lands.
The long shadow of sorrow cast by the discord between the two is exorcised, and a great joy fills the world.
Susanoo no Mikoto descended to Izumo no kuni where his beloved wife awaited. He is seen off by Amaterasu Omikami, who prays for universal peace and tranquility over the lands and radiates an even greater brilliance in Takamagahara.
The sword presented by Susanoo no Mikoto has come down to the imperial family today as the legendary blade "Kusanagi no Tsurugi", one of the three Imperial Regalia of Japan.
Amaterasu Omikami is enshrined in Ise Grand Shrine as the most supreme among eight million gods. Susanoo no Mikoto is enshrined in Omiya Hikawa Shrine in Musashi no kuni Ichinomiya (the present-day city of Saitama in Saitama Prefecture). They continue to protect Japan today.
* Amaterasu Omikami: The "Sun Goddess" called is said to be the chief divinity of Shintoism.
* Susanoo no Mikoto: One of the most famous gods to have appeared in Japanese mythology. Younger brother to the "goddess of the sun, Amaterasu Omikami," who is recognized as the ruling god of the Shinto religion.
* Izumo no kuni: The former name of the land making up the eastern part of modern Shimane Prefecture.

"Yumiya Hachiman"
Empress Jingu dances the "Hikiyumi no Mai" and summons her child Hondawakeno no Mikoto.
Empress Jingu tells Hondawakeno no Mikoto to face foreign countries with military might and rule the nation with might and virtue as the emperor, and bestows the “Bow and Arrows of Hachiman” as a symbol of this.
A dance is performed by the mother and child to pray for world peace.
Empress Jingu entrusts Hondawakeno no Mikoto with the government of Japan and takes her leave.
Having seen the Empress off, Hondawakeno no Mikoto accedes the throne, dances the imperial dance to inspire with his will to lead the country as Emperor Ojin, and demonstrates his abundant wisdom and military might to the world.
Rather than a weapon, the bow and arrow are a symbol of protection to seal away conflict.
"Hachiman" means many military flags, and Hachiman shrines, which enshrine Emperor Ojin, are deeply revered by samurai families, and there are said to be 40,000 shrines, the most any god in all of Japan.
In this gorgeous and auspicious Kagura dance, prominent figures in ancient Japanese history by the names of Empress Jingu and Emperor Ojin dance on stage at the same time.
* Empress Jingu: The empress consort to the 14th Emperor Chuai of Japan. Along with Himiko (Queen of Ancient Japan), she was known as one of the most famous and iconic heroines of ancient Japan, a figure who was said to have served as a symbol of a powerful female military commander.
* Hondawakeno no Mikoto: The name by which the 15th Emperor of Japan, Emperor Ojin, was known by during his lifetime. He is the fourth son (prince) of Emperor Chuai. His mother is Empress Jingu.
