Celebrate the founding of Japan with "Kagura."
In commemoration of Japan's National Foundation Day, we will present a performance of highlights of Japanese mythology, featuring Tenson (more commonly known as Ninigi no Mikoto) descending upon Takachiho as a new lord.
Ninigi no Mikoto performs the hojo-no-mai dance with an ear of rice to usher in a good harvest, flipping his own hoko (spear) upside down in a proclamation of peace, to create a nation without strife or war.
Please enjoy this staging of the popular program "Tensonkōrin" – Hōjō no mai Sakahoko no mikotonori –, performed for the first time since 2019, the first Reiwa year, to commemorate the "Sokui reiseiden no gi" (Enthronement of the Japanese Emperor).
* Ninigi no Mikoto: Grandson of Amaterasu-ō-Mikami, the famous and ancient sun goddess of Japan, and is one of the Amatsukami gods. He is also known by the name Tenson.
* Amaterasu ō Mikami: The "Sun Goddess" called is said to be the chief divinity of Shintoism.
This event ended on February 11th (Sat)
