“February Risshun

[ The 24 seasons and 72 micro-seasons ]
Now four seasons are standard, but in ancient Japan the spring, summer, fall and winter were divided into 24 seasons, and each of those 24 seasons was further divided into 3 smaller seasons of 5 days each, called the 72 micro-seasons.
This helped people sense the changing seasons.

72 micro-seasons

Harukaze kōri o toku
(East wind melts the ice)
February 4–8

Uguisu naku
(Bush warblers start singing in the mountains)
February 9–13

Uo kōri o izuru
(Fish emerge from the ice)
February 14–18

It’s on this day that the spring season begins on the calendar.
This is the time when the coldest period of the year comes to a close, and the first glimpses of spring start to appear.
First southernly gale of spring is called the "Haru Ichiban" in Japan.

At SUIGIAN, you can enjoy the changing nature with our dishes and cocktails.
