“February Usui

[ The 24 seasons and 72 micro-seasons ]
Now four seasons are standard, but in ancient Japan the spring, summer, fall and winter were divided into 24 seasons, and each of those 24 seasons was further divided into 3 smaller seasons of 5 days each, called the 72 micro-seasons.
This helped people sense the changing seasons.

72 micro-seasons

Tsuchi no shō uruoi okoru
(Rain moistens the soil)
February 19–23

Kasumi hajimete tanabiku
(Mist starts to linger)
February 24–28

Sōmoku mebae izuru
(Grass sprouts, trees bud)
March 1–5

This is the season when the snow and ice start to melt away.
The firm, condensed soil starts to slowly moisten, and plants and trees revive to make their appearance again as a sign of the spring season.

At SUIGIAN, you can enjoy the changing nature with our dishes and cocktails.
Be sure to try them!
