“June Bōshu

[ The 24 seasons and 72 micro-seasons ]
Now four seasons are standard, but in ancient Japan the spring, summer, fall and winter were divided into 24 seasons, and each of those 24 seasons was further divided into 3 smaller seasons of 5 days each, called the 72 micro-seasons.
This helped people sense the changing seasons.

72 micro-seasons

Kamakiri shōzu
(Praying mantises hatch)
June 6–10

Kusaretaru kusa hotaru to naru
(Rotten grass becomes fireflies)
June 11–15

Ume no mi kibamu
(Plums turn yellow)
June 16–20

The character "Bō" in the term "Bōshu" can also be read as "Nogi" in Japanese, and indicates the needle-like protrusions found at the tips of ears of rice.
"Bōshu" traditionally serves as a marker to indicate the time of year for sowing seeds to begin the process of planting rice.

At SUIGIAN, you can enjoy the changing nature with our dishes and cocktails.
