SUIGIAN, which has up until now only permitted public performances of the traditional arts, will host "JAZZNOH LAB.," a fusion program with new arts and culture as a second round.

It will be a collaboration representing Japan, between Tsunao Yamai, Noh master of the Komparu school of Shite-kata (principal actor) and recipient of the general designation of Important Intangible Cultural Property and "BLU-SWING," a five-person band active worldwide which pursues its unique jazz-based sound.

In the first part, the Shite-kata Yamai Tsunao and his apprentice, the Noh actress Muraoka Kiyomi will perform "Hagoromo" in a Noh dance.
In the second part, shite Tsunao Yamai’s dance will be expressed to an original song composed by BLU-SWING; there will be a Noh chanting session by BLU-SWING vocalists Yu-ri Tanaka and Kiyomi Muraoka, creating an experimental space which fuses jazz vocals and Noh chanting.
In the third part, we will present a live performance by the internationally acclaimed BLU-SWING, the quintessence of city pop jazz BLU-SWING.
Please experience a moment of "Shin-Gi-Tai" (the three qualities of heart, technique, and strength) brought about by a collaboration between Japan’s state-of-the-art jazz music and the oldest Noh playon the theme of "Jo-Ha-Kyu," a temporal concept in ancient Eastern music based on the Noh theories established by Zeami Motokiyo, in SUIGIAN’s space.

Using SUIGIAN’s theme of "Playing with culture through Japan’s seasons" and based on the concept of the 24 seasons and 72 micro-seasons "Sōkō (Frost falls)" solar term, the audience can partake of small party dishes and Sushi bar prepared using the freshest of ingredients.

As the projection-mapped story plays against the backdrop of the ancient pine tree painted in the Edo period (1608 – 1967) by an artist of the Kano school, cutting-edge techno music will fuse with traditional performing arts to create a SUIGIAN-style hospitality for all to enjoy.

* Jo-Ha-Kyu: Japanese performing arts term which refers to three phases of a musical piece or stage performance. "Jo" is a peaceful introduction; "Ha" is a dense development phase; and "Kyu" is a fast-paced final chapter.
