On 3 (Tue) and 4 (Wed) June 2025, the Traditional Culture Future Co-creation Project staged one of its symbolic programmes, “Reiwa Konjaku Shiki Monogatari Emaki (Reiwa Four Seasons Story Picture Scroll)” at the EXPO Hall “Shining Hat” in the Osaka Kansai Expo site.

This grand performance brought together a cast of 200, including heads and masters from various schools, multiple Living National Treasures, and emerging young artists.
Through traditional performing arts such as Noh, Kyogen, Miko dance, Kagura, and Gagaku, the performance recreated Japan’s seasonal transitions and Shinto rituals on the Expo stage.
In addition, a new stage expression combining classical and modern technology was realised through a video production utilising generative AI technology, leaving a strong impression and lasting impression on the audience.
Over the two days, more than 5,000 spectators, including guests from 15 countries, both domestic and international, had the opportunity to rediscover the depth and beauty of Japanese culture through this performance.
This performance will go down in Expo history as a symbolic initiative that embodies the transmission of traditional culture and co-creation for the future.

The programme will continue to be used as an educational tool for passing on culture to the future, and as killer content for communicating the splendour of traditional Japanese culture to the world.
Therefore, we have created a special opportunity for the performers themselves to explain the rituals and ceremonies that cannot be conveyed on the big stage, as well as reproducing the performance of the day, so that more people can understand and support the concept of this project. This is a very valuable opportunity. We look forward to your participation.

The owner of SUIGIAN, Hidetomo Kimura, conceived and directed the Reiwa Four Seasons Picture Scroll with the support of many people.
With this in mind, the Suigian is planning to hold a review of all nine and ten parts of the “Reiwa Four Seasons Story Picture Scroll,” starting with this first event.
This is a special time to unravel the story of this picture scroll. Please look forward to it.
